In an attempt to solidify their rotation, the Los Angeles Angels (I still can’t get used to saying that), traded former All Star shortstop, Orlando Cabrera to the Chicago White Sox for RHP Jon Garland.
It was no secret that the White Sox had been shopping pitchers Jon Garland and Jose Contreras for quite some time. In fact, many rumors suggested that the mets were going to be suitors for his services.
What I find most surprising is that it cost the Angels such a big piece of their offense. Besides great defense, Cabrera could swing a bast with the best of them and batted .301 in 2007.
I liked the idea of Jon Garland possibly pitching for the Mets, but no way do I give up that much for a guy who figures to be a number three or four starter. The good news is that this might take the Angels out of the running in a deal for Erik Bedard, Johan Santana, Dan Haren or whoever else is out there.
By the way… I was thrilled to see that Tom Glavine signed with the Braves, and I look forward to seeing the Mets use that extra first round draft pick (number 18 overall), wisely!
