Here’s a nice way to start the Mets offseason…

On Saturday at Sporting Park, fans gathered to watch the soccer match between the Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City.

As in most sporting events that take place in this great country, the action on the field doesn’t begin without first playing the National Anthem, and on this day, Dr. Cameron Smith was called upon to sing the Star Spangled Banner.

However, 30 seconds into the anthem, the public address system went out along with its backup, rendering the microphone useless in the now silent stadium.

With the crowd still standing, many of them with their hands to their hearts, instinct took over and the crowd stepped up to the plate.

This is what happened…

That was awesome…

So now, with our national anthem proudly sung, the 2013/2014 Mets Offseason is now officially underway.
