The New York Mets (34-41) finished off the series sweep defeating the San Francisco Giants (27-51) by a score of 8-2 at AT&T Park on Sunday afternoon.

Pitching:

Rafael Montero followed up his back-to-back solid bullpen outing with a very strong start. Montero lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits, struck out seven and most positively only walked two batters.

Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas the last time, Montero has pitched to the line of 12.1 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 4 BB and 15 K.

Josh Edgin inherited a runner in the sixth in relief of Montero, and struck out Brandon Belt to retire the only batter he faced.

Paul Sewald worked a scoreless seventh inning, and Fernando Salas inherited two runners in the eighth, but was able to get out of the inning despite allowing a run to score.

Chase Bradford came on for the ninth in his major league debut and fired a scoreless inning to finish off the sweep.

Offense:

Rene Rivera recorded the first multi-home run game of his career, smacking a two-run shot in the second and a solo homer in the fourth to help lead the charge offensively.

Jay Bruce reached base twice and drove in three runs. Two of those RBI came with one swing of the bat as Bruce smacked his 20th home run of the season. Bruce has now driven in 53 runs on the season.

Curtis Granderson was on base four times, with a pair of walks, a single, and his tenth home run of the season in the ninth to put the nail in the coffin for Sunday’s game.

The four home runs on the day set the Mets all-time record for home runs in a month with 46. The team hit a previous high of 45 in both Aug. 2015 and Aug. 2016.
