As announced on MLB Network, two Mets will travel to Denver to represent the team in the 2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Infielder Brett Baty and catcher Francisco Àlvarez were named to the roster on Wednesday morning.

Àlvarez, at just 19 years old, has been demolishing pitching all season long. Between Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn, the 5’10 catcher is hitting .321/.453/.597 with 31 RBI to go along with eight dingers. Defensively, Àlvarez has only thrown out two of the thirteen attempted base runners this year, but scouting reports suggest that his defense is moving in the right direction.

Baty, a 2019 first round pick, has been destroying the competition with the Brooklyn Cyclones to the tune of a .318/.417/.534 slash line to go along with 6 long balls and 32 RBI. The 21-year old has mostly played third base for Brooklyn this year, but recently made his first professional appearance in left field.

Baty went on MLB Network to talk to the MLB Central crew immediately following the announcement. Of being named to the roster, he said that he is “looking forward to playing with all these talented players and going to Denver. I’m looking forward to having one of my teammates go with me.”

Àlvarez and Baty rank as MetsMinors’ first and fifth ranked prospects in the Mets’ system, respectively.

The SiriusXM Futures Game takes place on Sunday, July 11th at 3 PM in Denver, Colorado. The same night, the MLB Draft takes place from MLB Studios in Secaucus, New Jersey at 6 PM.
