Maybe those Alex Rodriguez to buy the Mets rumors weren’t just rumors after all….

Variety reports that A-Rod and fiance Jennifer Lopez have retained JPMorgan Chase to raise money for a possible bid on our beloved team. This comes from people who are familiar with the matter, but nothing has been confirmed yet by either party or the bank.

The couple is working directly with the co-head of North American media investment banking of JP Morgan Chase, Managing Director Eric Menell.

WOAH.

I know we’re not picky in the matter right now to say the least, but, I am for this. There are perks to having a former player own your franchise. There are perks to having two business-savvy individuals run your franchise. And there are perks to having two New Yorker run your New York franchise (we’ll just pretend that Lopez didn’t rock Yankees gear in many of her music videos and interviews back in the day).

What do you think Mets fans? Are you for this? I know we’re all scarred after the Steve Cohen deal fell through, but maybe with big names like these, with ties to the league and even this team already, this can be different. However, I cannot see either A-Rod or J.Lo taking a backseat in ownership if they do place a bid to buy the Mets.

Stay tuned, this can get interesting…
