“We’ve had some conversations,” Alderson said, according to Rubin. “I don’t want to get into any detail, but – also while saying I don’t want to comment – I don’t want to give you the false impression that we are anywhere along the road. I still think it’s early, notwithstanding all the background noise from the last week.”

The Mets expect Reyes to come back to them for a counteroffer once he’s done shopping, though they are not going to engage in a bidding war.

Reyes is targeting at least a $100 million deal according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, “Until he gets a deal that starts with a one, he will not sign” a source told him.

According to ESPN InsideBuster Olney, the Miami Marlins are expected to sign Jose Reyes.

“There is an expectation they will work something out with Reyes for something in the range of five years, $18-20M a year. They are seen as the team that’s going to be most aggressive and he certainly fits the style that Ozzie Guillen loves to play. He loves to have a team that runs the bases aggressively, puts pressure on opposing defenses. Reyes would be a centerpiece for that with Hanley Ramirez moving to another position.”

Ramirez is said to be fine with shifting to third base and is lobbying for the Marlins to get this deal for Reyes done.

Meanwhile, SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt says that sources told him the Marlins are very confident they will sign Jose Reyes, as Miami views him as the centerpiece of their entire offseason.

Sigh…
