Some good news on Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes who appears to be making progress from a strained hamstring injury. After last night’s victory against the San Francisco Giants, manager Terry Collins said that the Cespedes could return in roughly two weeks.

Cespedes, who has been rehabbing at the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie, flew to New York on Monday to meet with specialists to try and determine if there is an underlying issue behind his recurring leg injuries.

According to Mets GM Sandy Alderson, the team is trying to take a different tact with Cespedes in an effort to prevent him from suffering further injuries.

The Mets’ star left fielder could be cleared to resume baseball activities as soon as this week.  “He came out of the test fine,” Collins said. (Newsday)

“He feels he’s getting better. He told me today that the leg’s really feeling a lot better. I think everything’s on the upswing. He had a big smile on his face. He’s glad to be back. I just said, ‘Look, when you get started, take it easy in the beginning. See how you feel.”

Cespedes, who signed a four year deal worth $110 million last Winter, is batting  .270 with four doubles, six home runs, 10 RBIs and a .992 OPS in 18 games this season.

In his absence, the team’s offense has had no problem scoring runs, producing 56 of them in their last seven games.
