After David Wright defended his skipper by calling his teammates “cowardly” for their remarks against Terry Collins earlier this week, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson attempted to right the ship as well.

Speaking before Saturday’s match up with the Philadelphia Phillies, Alderson said he was extremely disappointed by multiple reports of players and staff members anonymously disparaging the manager right at the conclusion of the season.

“To the extent that the information came from players, I was extraordinary disappointed, their willingness to talk without attribution,” Alderson said. “The extent that information reportedly came from anywhere in the front office, I was exceptionally disappointed. Were I to know who that person was, that person would be terminated immediately.

“I think this story and the aftermath overshadows to this point seven years of outstanding service and in turn these stories have been a disservice to Terry.”

Alderson added that he takes accountability for cultivating a culture that has allowed people to choose anonymity and rip their manager.

Collins came under fire in articles that appeared in the New York Post and Newsday Thursday about how Collins has been on the hot seat since 2014, has been unfriendly and unapproachable to players and has run his pitchers into the ground.

“I was very disappointed with [the Newsday story]. I was disappointed with the content as well as the timing. I thought it was an unfair piece given the time at which it was written,” Alderson said. “[It’s] unfortunate given the fact that we have said we will make a decision and have an announcement after the season, and I felt this was very unfortunate for the timing and for the content.”

The Mets general manager debunked any notion that Collins was solely responsible for the string of Mets injuries this season.

“I wouldn’t agree to any of the substance of that conversation,” he said. “With respect to injuries, we continue to look at how those injuries occur in terms of usage, medical care, overall conditioning, and we will continue to look at it.”

While it doesn’t look like Collins future is any safer today than it was yesterday, a resolution on the matter should come as soon as Monday when the season is over.

“Everything will happen at end of this season,” Alderson said. “My situation and Terry’s situation will be resolved appropriately and that’s about all I can say at this point.”
