The Mets have long been searching for stability in their bullpen, and they may have finally found it. When Trevor May first went down, the worry would be who could bridge the gap from the starter to their closer, Edwin Díaz.

Fortunately, the answer has been right underneath their nose this entire time in Adam Ottavino. While it did take some time for Ottavino to get comfortable enough with his position in the bullpen, he’s been on a complete tear as of late.

Ottavino has only allowed 3 runs in his last 19 innings pitched and stepped up in a huge way for the Mets. The team called on Ottavino in both of their wins against the Dodgers and he stood his ground in a way that he’s been long wanted.

Heading into their playoff stretch, the Mets will rely on Ottavino more often than in hopes of keeping Diaz as fresh as possible. The Mets have an easier stretch of games leading towards the end of the season which gives them an advantage for their bullpen to find stability.

Ottavino has posted a 2.01 ERA this season in 53.2 innings for the Mets this season. He’s also struck out 65 batters while only waking 14. With the team being on the verge of what could be an incredible season, Ottavino will be at the forefront of what has become a revitalized bullpen alongside Edwin Diaz.
