Aaron Loup will get the start in Sunday’s matinee against the Pirates at Citi Field.

The New York Mets will close out the first half of the 2021 season against the Pirates at 1:10 P.M. on Sunday.

There was some thought that maybe Jacob deGrom would go given that he is skipping the 2021 All-Star Game, but the Mets have instead made the right decision to give their ace an extended rest ahead of the second half of the season.

That means Loup will go as the opener and the bullpen will pick up the rest as the Mets go in search of their third win in four games against the Pirates.

Loup is 3-0 this season with a 1.73 ERA, giving up five earned runs on 20 hits with six walks and 32 strikeouts.

In other news, the Mets have re-added pitcher Jerad Eickhoff to the active roster, per Tim Healey, while Nick Tropeano has been optioned to the minors.

Eickhoff has pitched in two games for the Mets this season, pitching to a 4.50 ERA with five earned runs allowed on 11 hits and six strikeouts.
