With the speculation that Curtis Granderson is coming to Queens and the signing of Chris Young, I started to consider what the lineup may look like if this were to come to fruition…
Batting 3 through 6 in the order:
David Wright – Righty
Curtis Granderson – Lefty
Chris Young – Righty
Ike Davis – Lefty
I decided to look up the top 10 strikeout seasons in the history of the franchise…
1 – David Wright – 161 strikeouts (2010)
2 – Tommie Agee – 156 (1970)
2 – Dave Kingman – 156 (1982)
4 – Dave Kingman – 153 (1975)
5 – Todd Hundley – 146 (1996)
6 – Mo Vaughn – 145 (2002)
7 – Mike Cameron – 143 (2004)
8 – Ike Davis – 141 (2012)
8 – Darryl Strawberry – 141 (1986)
10 – David Wright – 140 (2009)
Hmmm… David Wright and Ike Davis both strike out a lot. They’re both in the top 10. David’s on the list twice. Ike just missed making it a second time and actually ranked #11 with 138 strikeouts in 2010.
Wait… don’t Curtis Granderson and Chris Young strike out, too? Like, a LOT?
Granderson would make the list five times. Heck, he’d make the top three all by himself.
2012 – 195 K’s
2006 – 174 K’s
2011 – 169 K’s
2007 – 141 K’s
2009 – 141 K’s
I think it’s safe to assume that Granderson would likely strike out a ton in the orange and blue.
Chris Young isn’t too far behind and would occupy the top spot, too… he’d make the list three times.
2008 – 165 K’s
2010 – 145 K’s
2007 – 141 K’s
Curtis Granderson and Chris Young have eight seasons between them that would make the Mets all time top 10 list in strikeouts. Either one individually would be the Mets’ all-time Strikeout King and Curtis would likely shatter the record.
It’s quite likely that you can have the King and the two Successors to the Throne hitting back to back to back in the lineup with the Prince of Punchouts following their lead.
At least there will be plenty of fanning to keep everyone cool during the Dog Days…
