I’ve been kicking this post around in my head for a few days now, but in light of Joe D’s post regarding the lack of journalistic integrity, I think it’s time to write it.

First and foremost, congratulations to the New York Giants on their Super Bowl victory. I’ve been a Met fan for 40 years, and a Giant fan for almost that long, so this year’s win was a sweet surprise. Remember when the season started? None of the so-called experts, sports writers and talking head, gave Big Blue any chance of finishing higher than last place. The Eagles were the dream team. Dallas, is well Dallas, and the Redskins had to be better, right? The Giants went out and showed them all. They took care of business.

The reason I mention this, is because it seems like a lot of fans are buying into the negativity the media loves to direct toward the Mets. I’m not saying the Mets are going to win the World Series, but what I am saying is I doubt the Mets are going to be as horrible as the media makes them out to be. It’s almost as if the media feels the only way to draw attention to the Mets is to write negative, pessimistic garbage about them.

The Mets have a lot of work to do, no doubt. They are going to have to be better than good almost every night. But allow me to be positive for a moment. Both Ike Davis and David Wright are going to be healthy this year. Same for Murph, who has proven he can hit in the big leagues. Lucas Duda and Ruben Tejada both surprised in their rookie seasons. Santana will be back and so will Dickey. The bullpen’s been revamped as well. Things suddenly don’t seem so horrible. It’s spring time, it’s time to be optimistic, if not now then when?!

The last time I looked, the games, be it football or baseball are played on grass, not on paper. Let the players play, let the season roll on, let’s enjoy the games, and most of all let’s draw our own conclusions.

Think for yourselves and don’t let those clowns on the web, or in the newspapers and on TV brainwash you. We’re better than that – we are Mets fans.

So today and forever, LETS GO METS!
