Rawlings announced the Gold Glove Award Finalists on Wednesday afternoon with Nolan McLean, Carson Benge and Luis Torrens being the three Mets recognized for their defensive prowess during the 2026 regular season.

The voting is done by managers and coaches, who account for 75 percent of the selection process. The other 25 percent comes from the SABR Defensive Index (SDI), which measures “the number of runs saved by a player’s defensive performance over the course of a season, compared to the average defensive player at that position.” You can read the full qualifications here.

McLean is up against Chris Sale of the Braves and Michael McGreevy of the Cardinals. McLean would be only the second Mets pitcher to win the award, joining Ron Darling in 1989. David Peterson was a finalists in 2025 for the Mets. We wrote about McLean’s chances last month. SABR released their final update of their defensive index on August 9, at that time McGreevy was ahead of McLean 3.3 to 3.0.

Torrens is a finalist for the second straight season. This year, he’s up against Freddy Fermin and Gabriel Moreno. Torrens would be the first catcher in team history to win a Gold Glove. In the final SABR update of the season, Torrens (8.8 SDI)had a significant lead over Moreno (7.2) and Fermin (5.6).

Benge is a finalist in his rookie season after most defensive metrics had him struggling to begin the season. However, he finished strong and is up against Seiya Suzuki and Corbin Carroll. In the August SABR update, Benge was actually a negative defender at -0.7, while Carroll was at 10.9 and Suzuki was at 6.6.

The last Met to win a Gold Glove was outfielder Juan Lagares in 2014. The last time the Mets had two Gold Glover winners in a season was Carlos Beltrán and David Wright in 2008. They’ve never had three winners in a single season.

The 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners will be announced on Nov. 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET during a live ESPN broadcast.
