It’s the end of an era. After 21 seasons in the major leagues, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher and former Met Justin Verlander walked off the mound for the final time at Comerica Park on Saturday and stepped into retirement from baseball.

His daughter Genevieve joined Tigers manager AJ Hinch to get Verlander from the mound in the sixth inning against the Pirates.
“I left home when she was in school and I wasn’t there,” Verlander told reporters after the game. “I hope she understands she means the world to me.”
