Good morning, Mets fans!
On Monday, Jonah Tong returned from Triple-A Syracuse for his first major league appearance since June 2. The outing would have been excellent, if not for a troubled second inning.
After the 23-year-old struck out the first four Marlins batters of the game, Tong quickly surrounded four runs, including a three-run home run over the right field wall. However, the way he bounced back may show promise for his remaining starts in 2026.
After the second inning, Tong was able to retire 11 of his final 13 batters, getting through five innings of work. With the Mets offense supplying him nine runs of run support, he was able to pick up his second win of the season.
The Mets were able to win 9-4 in their series opener with the Marlins. A.J. Ewing stole the show, going 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. New York totaled 16 hits, including four doubles.
