The Mets (38-53) took down the Braves (52-37) by a score of 7-6 on Monday night at Truist Park, riding a go-ahead three-run shot in the top of the ninth to snap a stretch of frustrating finishes. Both offenses got loud early, but New York’s bullpen did just enough to close it out and hand Atlanta its sixth loss in its last eight games.
Freddy Peralta got the start for New York, tossing four and 2/3 innings and allowing three runs (just one earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking one.
Atlanta’s starter matched him for most of the night, tossing five innings and allowing just one run on three hits.
New York struck first, with a run in the top of the second on a Carson Benge home run. Atlanta clawed back with two runs in the home half of the frame, and one in the third off Peralta, then tied things up with two more in the ninth to force extras. New York’s offense leaned on Juan Soto, who went deep and worked three walks to go with three RBIs. Luis Torrens delivered a two-run double off the bench, and Francisco Alvarez chipped in two hits and an RBI.

The bullpen had its bumps, as Devin Williams allowed a home run and two runs in just two-thirds of an inning, but New York steadied things down the stretch. Brooks Raley (3-3, 2.23 ERA) picked up the win with a scoreless third of an inning, then handed it to Luke Weaver, who worked around an unearned run (ghost runner), which ultimately ended his 25 scoreless innings streak, in the bottom of the 10th to lock down his first save of the season.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Juan Soto earns Monday’s honor, going deep and reaching base four times with a homer and three RBIs in the win.
