Good morning, Mets fans! Another hat has been entered in the Mets’ manager sweepstakes.

Per Dan Martin of the New York Post, former Cubs manager and catcher David Ross would ‘love’ a chance at the open position in New York. Of note, Andy Green, the Mets’ interim manager, was David Ross’ bench coach with the Cubs between 2020 and 2023. While Ross currently works for ESPN, he noted before Sunday Night Baseball that he ‘hopes the Mets call.’

Ross and the Cubs won the NL Central in his first season during the shortened 2020 COVID year, but finished under .500 in back-to-back seasons after, and one win short of a second Wild Card berth in 2023. The Cubs then dismissed him before bringing on current manager Craig Counsell.

Former slugger Albert Pujols has also openly expressed interest in the gig recently since the Mets fired Carlos Mendoza.

Kodai Senga (0-7) gave up Kyle Schwarber‘s go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning Sunday in the Mets’ 5-4 loss to the Phillies in front of 38,770 at Citi Field. Overall, however, Senga’s first career regular-season relief outing was an improvement over his last few starts. He gave up two earned runs on four hits over five innings, struck out four and walked one. His ERA dipped to 9.09.

“I think it’s just up to me,” he said through a Japanese interpreter. “If I can’t compete and be in the zone … I don’t deserve a spot in the rotation. But on the flip side, if I am able to compete, I do feel like I can throw in the rotation.”

A.J. Ewing hit a two-run homer, Carson Benge drove in two, and Tyrone Taylor had two hits in his return from injury. But the Mets left 14 men on base and went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position. New York (35-49) left the bases loaded in the fifth and eighth innings.

Johnluke Chaparro has more on the game in his recap here.

The Mets are in Toronto on Monday to start a seven-game road trip that ends with four games in Atlanta. Sean Manaea (1-2, 4.87 ERA) faces Trey Yesavage (3-3, 3.56 ERA) at 7:07 p.m. ET. It will air on SNY.

Clay Holmes told Chelsea Janes of SNY that he got another X-ray on his leg last week and “everything checked out.” He has been throwing off flat ground and will throw off a mound next week. He declined to set a target return date.

Jorge Polanco (Achilles) told Janes his Triple-A rehab game on Saturday went well, and he believes he is stronger than he was the first time he tried to return from injury. He plans to DH, but could play first too if healthy enough. David Stearns said last week that Polanco could see action before the All-Star break.

Per SNY, the Mets have the worst NL record in one-run games (7-15) in 2026 after Sunday’s loss to Philadelphia. The best record in one-run games belongs to the Phillies (18-6).

RHP Carlos Carrasco re-signed with the Braves for the fifth time this year. The routine works like this: Atlanta designates him for assignment, he clears waivers, chooses free agency, and then signs with the Braves on a new minor-league deal. This lets the Braves bring him up without losing some roster flexibility.

1B/DH Carlos Santana, 40, signed a minor-league deal with the Braves, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. The first baseman was released by the Diamondbacks and will report to Triple-A.
