Today was a good day overall for the Mets’ minor league system with almost every level winning their games. Syracuse was led by rehabbing major leaguers, Brooklyn had an exciting walk-off,  St. Lucie had great pitching, and the youngest prospects keep hitting.

Triple-A

Syracuse (39-37) 9, Lehigh Valley (35-41) 6

Box Score

The Syracuse Mets lineup contained three major league players on rehab assignments and they combined to score six of the team’s nine runs and drive in five of them. Nick Morabito joined in the scoring fun with two runs, while Ryan Clifford drove in one. June has been especially dreadful for Clifford, who was a dishonorable mention on Baseball Prospectus’s most recent Heat Check. Unfortunately, few prospects have seen their prospect status fall as far as Clifford’s has. Nick Morabito has looked better as of late, while the cracks are starting to show with Kevin Parada, who still has a nice slash line, but is seeing his swing and miss climb while his walk rate has begun to decline.

June has not been kind to Jack Wenninger, who is running a 5.02 ERA this month and has pitched in the sixth inning only once. He has eight walks in only 14.2 innings pitched, though he has stuck out fourteen. Wenninger’s issue is that he is unable to maintain his velocity throughout his starts. When he is throwing 95-96 miles per hour on his fastball, he is dealing, but when he falls to 93 miles per hour by the fourth inning, that pitch is non-competitive. I have long felt that Wenninger’s future may be at the back of the bullpen and if he does not fix those issues, I have a hard time seeing that change.

Jefry Yan is an interesting pitcher who could get a look in the majors if the Mets sell. I do not know that he will be necessarily be good, but he is a left-handed pitcher who can throw 100 miles per hour and typically that is worth a look. He topped out at exactly 100 in this game and ran a ridiculous 72.7% whiff rate. The Mets have struggled to find velocity the last few years, signing Luis García Jr. this offseason in hopes of that and cutting him when the velocity did not appear.

Speaking of velocity, Dylan Ross’s velocity seems to have returned, but unfortunately, it has not helped him enough to make up for his lack of command. He did have a better outing, earning the save and bringing his ERA into the single digits. He did that by basically only throwing his splitter and slider, both plus pitches.

Double-A

Erie (37-32) 10, Binghamton (27-43) 2

Box Score

Without Jacob Reimer there is not much to the Rumble Ponies lineup. Chris Suero has been an uneven three true outcome bat, while Nick Lorusso has been one of their best hitters with a .764 OPS. I wish there were more positives to talk about but they struck out twelve times and only scored two runs.

  • RHP Bryce Conley: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (L)
  • RHP Danis Correa: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Brian Metoyer: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Justin Ambruester: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

The only positive I can say about Bryce Conley is that he did not walk anyone. Danis Correa threw a scoreless inning with a 60% whiff rate. He has pitched well overall, bouncing through the various levels in the Mets’ minor league system.

High-A

Brooklyn Cyclones (26-43) 8, Jersey Shore (27-42) 7,

Box Score

Mitch Voit has been showing signs of life throughout June with much better swing decisions and contact rates. He has been banged up this year and while some analysts have soured on him throughout this season, he has shown the ability to play good defense in a premium position and make a difference on the base paths. You would hope for more polish out of a college bat in High A, and this hit tool can collapse at higher levels, but if he can continue to run a high 80s.

JT Benson could be interesting. He was signed out of independent baseball before the season and showed good power metrics in Single-A. Definitely a power over hit tool and he may not make enough contact to succeed at higher levels, but so far, he is crushing the ball in High-A, and if he continues that, he could get his first real test in Double-A.

Finally, the season has been rough so far for the Mets’ 2023 top international signing Daiverson Gutierrez, but he showed up big today getting the walk-off hit in extra innings.

Robert Stock pitched and looked fantastic with four strikeouts across two innings and a 56.3% whiff rate. I would expect many of us would love to see him make his way back to the majors. Hoss Brewer was the late-inning-hero also striking out four across two innings and running a 37.5% whiff rate to get the win.

Single-A

St. Lucie (35-34) 6, Fort Myers (39-30) 2

Box Score

Trey Snyder continues to hit, raising his average to .296. The power has not shown up in the results –  he only has a .389 SLG – but his 105.3 miles per hour 90% exit velocity shows he could have some power to tap into. There are some similarities to Jett Williams when he was in Single A as a speedy and passive shortstop who runs a mid-80s zone contact rate, maximizes a good 90% EV, and does not swing and miss much. But Jett pulled the ball and walked at significantly higher rates, allowing himself to really maximize the skill set in ways Snyder does not. There is still stuff to like if Snyder keeps it up.

The season, for the most part, has been dreadful for Jeremy Rodriguez and Antonio Jimenez though Jimenez is maybe starting to show some signs of life. He is pulling the ball at a much higher rate as of late and that is leading to much louder contact. This could very well just be a small sample size blip but is worth monitoring.

The pitching staff worked around trouble, allowing only two runs to score despite giving up five hits and ten walks. For the second week in a row get to mention a Zack Mack win. Mack is running a plus-whiff rate at 33.8% on the season and limiting walks.

FCL Mets

FCL Cardinals (11-23) 7, FCL Mets (15-20) 4

Box Score

Yovanny Rodriguez continues to hit. It would not surprise me if he got a call-up to Single-A soon. He does not have the best contact rates, but he pulls the ball in the air consistently.

Calvin Ziegler threw in his second game since 2024. He threw 19 total pitches and ran a 50% whiff rate but walked two batters. It is good to see the 23-year-old throw in games again and hopefully he stays healthy.

DSL Mets Orange

DSL Mets Orange (11-6) 5, DSL Angels (14-3) 2,

Box Score

Cleiner Ramirez continues to dominate with his OPS up to .932. He does not swing and miss and pulls the ball at an incredibly high rate.

DSL Mets Blue

DSL Mets Blue (7-10) 7, DSL Tigers 1 (8-9) 6

Box Score

2026 international signing Jonnhan Sanchez looks great, hitting .407 with a 1.091 OPS. He continues to hit and pulls the ball at a very high rate.

The pitching was not helped by the defense, with four of the six runs being logged as unearned, but they did enough to get the win.
