The Mets dropped game one to the Mariners in their 12th extra-inning game of the season. Following Monday’s loss, they sent right-handed pitcher Huascar Brazobán to open game two on Tuesday ahead of the righty Jonah Tong making his third appearance of the season.

Neither pitcher had their best stuff on Tuesday as Brazobán and Tong combined to give up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, and Cionel Pérez gave up one run and two hits.

After two solid appearances from Tong, things unraveled for him in his 3.1 innings of work. He surrendered five hits, five runs (four earned), and issued two walks while striking out four. The big blow of the outing for the 22-year-old was a three-run home run by Jhonny Pereda.

Shotty defense hurt the Mets once more, with Marcus Semien and Mark Vientos each picking up an error, leading to the Mariners taking the lead and never looking back.

While there wasn’t very much in the positive column for New York on Tuesday, the one big note was Carson Benge’s 2-for-3 night. Tuesday was Benge’s first multi-homer game of his career, and he drove in all three of the Mets’ runs.

Despite Benge’s strong night at the plate, it wasn’t enough to send New York past Seattle as they dropped Game 2 and another series, 8-3.

Player of the Game:

Carson Benge remained the Mets’ lone bright spot on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with the first multi-home run game of his career.
