Baseball America has named A.J. Ewing as one of their largest risers in their most recent Top 100 Prospects list, moving from #68 to #37. Before the season Ewing was ranked #83. They describe Ewing as a complete player who can hit, run and field on a consistent basis. With Ewing now in Triple-A, BA wrote that “Ewing’s quick rise plus the early doldrums in Queens could afford him a chance at his MLB debut sometime this summer.”

After slashing .349/.481/.571/1.053 in Double-A, Ewing is slashing .440/.500/.560/1.060 across his first seven games at Triple-A.

Across this sample, Ewing looks strong under the hood. He is running:

  • 10.3% strikeout rate (96th percentile)
  • 92.1 miles per hour average exit velocity (91st percentile)
  • 17.8% whiff rate (89th percentile)
  • 9.1% barrel rate (74th percentile)
  • 45.5% hard-hit rate (72nd percentile)
  • 84.3% zone-contact rate (60th percentile)
  • 108.8 miles per hour max exit velocity (56th percentile)
  • 103.6 miles per hour 90% exit velocity (53rd percentile)

Carson Benge still has 31 at-bats or four days before he loses rookie eligibility (whichever comes first), so he stays on this Top 100 update at #12 overall.

Jonah Tong moves up six spots to #39 after ranking #45 in their April update.

Nolan McLean graduated from their list.
