The Mets (7-10) dropped the series opener in Los Angeles against the Dodgers (12-4), falling 4-0 on Monday evening at Dodger Stadium. New York managed just three hits, with the top four of the lineup going a combined 0-for-13.
It was not the start the Mets were hoping for to begin their West Coast trip. Now on a five-game loss streak, the offense continues to stall. New York has been shut out three times in its last four games, something the team hasn’t experienced since 2019. The club has now gone 20 consecutive innings without scoring a run.

David Peterson got the start for New York and ran into trouble right out of the gate. The left-hander opened the game by hitting a batter and issuing a walk before allowing an RBI single to put Los Angeles on the board before even recording an out.
Peterson remained shaky. In the third, he allowed two more walks and surrendered a two-out, three-run homer to Andy Pages that gave the Dodgers a 4-0 lead.
Peterson finished his outing after five innings, allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. He took the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season, with his ERA rising to 6.41.
Out of the bullpen, Craig Kimbrel worked a clean sixth inning aside from a single. Joey Gerber impressed in his Mets debut, tossing two innings while allowing two hits and a walk, striking out five.
At the plate, the club’s hitting woes persisted. Jorge Polanco singled in the fifth, but Francisco Alvarez grounded into a double play to end the inning. Alvarez picked up another hit in the eighth with two outs, but the Mets again couldn’t capitalize.
New York added one more hit in the ninth, but any hope of a rally was erased when Francisco Lindor grounded into a game-ending double play, sealing the Mets’ sixth straight loss.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Joey Gerber impressed in his Mets debut, striking out five across two innings. The 28-year-old, signed as a free agent from the Rays this past November, showed strong command in his first outing with the club.
