The man of the hour has spoken. Steve Cohen issued his first public thoughts on the Mets’ 2025 season and collapse on X. He wrote:
Mets fans everywhere. I owe you an apology . You did your part by showing up and supporting the team. We didn’t do our part. We will do a post-mortem and figure out the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team didn’t perform up to your and my expectations We are all feeling raw emotions today. I know how much time and effort you have put into this team. The result was unacceptable. Your emotions tell me how much you care and continues to motivate the organization to do better. Thank You to the best fans in sports.
Of course, the richest owner in baseball has plenty to answer for from fans and reporters. As you might recall, when Cohen purchased the Mets, his goal was to bring a championship to Queens in his “five-year plan.” In those five years, the team missed the playoffs in 2021, exited the Wild Card round in 2022, missed the playoffs again in 2023, experienced their greatest successes under Cohen with a trip to the NLCS in 2024, and, of course, missed out in 2025.
It’ll be a busy offseason in Queens, with several coaching changes already being discussed.
President of baseball operations David Stearns will speak to the media on Monday at 3:30 PM. MMO will provide coverage of Stearns’ remarks.
