Major League Baseball announced the American League and National League Players of the Week on Monday, and a pair of shortstops earned last week’s honors.

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (8-for-25 [.320 AVG], four home runs, eight RBIs, and a 1.254 OPS) earned the designation for the American League, and Francisco Lindor, who, for the fifth time in his career, earned the honors for the National League. He previously won the award twice in May 2018 and May 2022, and again last season in August 2024.

Lindor went 14-for-25 (.560 BA) last week, hitting two doubles, three home runs, driving in seven RBIs, and had an OPS of 1.647 with two stolen bases.

After going through a bit of a slump in June and July, Lindor’s bat has come back to life in August and in a big way throughout New York’s series against the Braves and the Mariners. On Wednesday, he was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. He followed that up on Thursday against the Braves with a 3-for-4 performance that included a home run, RBI, and two runs scored. Though the Mets dropped both of those bouts against Atlanta, Lindor stayed hot throughout that series.

He kept the momentum alive on Friday when the Mets opened their series against Seattle, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a four-RBI day, and scoring twice. He rocketed three home runs in two days. On Saturday, he kept the hit streak alive, going 2-for-4, and on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

So far in August, Lindor is hitting the best he has since April, batting .350/.435/.633, with an OPS of .878.

Lindor is showing no signs of slowing down, and the Mets are riding the momentum of their first series win in a few weeks.

The Mets have an off-day on Monday and will open a three-game series against the Nationals on Tuesday in Washington.
