The Mets’ offense found their groove on Wednesday against the Athletics as they defeated them big, 9-1, on 11 hits. Pete Alonso was 4-for-4 as the Mets found the offensive boost they needed to snap their four-game losing streak.

The Mets and Athletics conclude their series on Thursday afternoon in a 1:10 p.m. ET matinee at Citi Field. It will be Mitch Spence (7-8, 4.33 ERA) on the mound for the Athletics against José Quintana (6-8, 4.10 ERA) on the mound for the Mets.

Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat’s second Triple-A outing on Wednesday afternoon was a rather short one. Joe DeMayo of SNY elaborated that Sproat was ejected from the game after the third inning along with pitching coach Grayson Crawford for arguing an apparent call at home plate. Sproat threw just 49 pitches and gave up one run on two hits and two walks over three innings. His velocity was between 94-97 mph (a tick down from 96-99 mph two weeks ago) and he struggled a bit with command, per a scout in attendance, as Mike Puma of The New York Post reported.

Per SNY, Mets prospect Drew Gilbert was hit in the lower leg by a pitch on Wednesday against the Rochester Red Wings. Gilbert fought to stay in the game, but was eventually removed for a pinch runner.
