What do you try to do when your team is struggling? Sometimes, you take a swing and try to borrow a page out of a division rival’s playbook. On Tuesday, just before the New York Mets begin a key series with the Oakland Athletics, New York signed former Atlanta Braves 2021 postseason hero Eddie Rosario to a minor league deal, Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated. Rosario will report to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

A former 2021 NLCS MVP and a Braves fan favorite, Rosario was traded to Atlanta from the Cleveland Guardians back in 2021. He finished that season with 14 home runs in total, but it was in the Braves run to the World Series championship that he made a name for himself. He slashed .383/.456/.617 with three home runs, 11 RBIs, and 23 hits in that postseason. His OPS was 1.073. He also hit 21 home runs for the Braves last season.

This season, his batting average is down to .175 with the Washington Nationals and Braves. The Nationals signed him in the offseason but released him on July 1. That opened the door for his return to Atlanta on July 5, but the Braves DFA’d him on August 8. His second Braves stint lasted just one month. He’s only slugging .316 this season with 10 home runs in all. His 10th home run of the season was against the Mets on July 27th at Citi Field.

The Mets already have a jam-logged outfield at the Major League level, but their Minor League depth is lacking. The addition of Rosario bolsters that with a proven veteran as the Mets continue their postseason pursuit.
