The Mets fell back below .500 again Thursday night, losing the first of a four-game series against the Dodgers.
In better news, Luis Rojas said in a press conference Thursday that he is optimistic that Francisco Lindor and/or Javier Baez could rejoin the Mets soon without a rehab stint. Per Tim Britton of The Athletic, Baez has been working out at second base and the Mets don’t plan to use him at third base. However, Jeff McNeil could play some at third base and in the corner outfield once Lindor and Baez return to the lineup.

1963: Grover Powelll shutout the Philadelphia Phillies in the Mets’ 4-0 victory over the Phillies at Connie Mack Stadium.
1985: Dwight Gooden pitches a complete game in the Mets’ 3-0 win over the San Francisco Giants at Shea Stadium. That was Gooden’s 13th consecutive win. He struck out 16 batters that night, becoming the first National League pitcher to strike out 200 or more batters in his first two seasons.
1989: The New York Mets made a number of trades that included sending Mookie Wilson to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for pitcher Jeff Musselman and minor leaguer Michael Brady. The Mets also acquired Frank Viola from the Twins on August 20, 1989 in exchange for pitchers Rick Aguilera, David West, Kevin Tapani, and two minor league players.
