2003: Mike Piazza charged the mound after being hit by a pitch in a meaningless spring training game. The pitcher, Guillermo Mota, hit Piazza in the shoulder after previously brushing his back with the last pitch. This sparked the benches to clear, and Piazza would hold a grudge for the rest of his career.

The Mets went on to trade for Mota to shore up the 2006 bullpen and received bad karma. Piazza was not around in game two of the NLCS that year to chase him off the mound before he gave up a game-tying two-run triple to the Cardinals’ third baseman, Scott Spiezio. Spoiler alert: the Mets went on to lose that game and, six days later, the series as well.
