With the General Manager meetings cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hot stove will have to wait a bit longer for some flashy news. That news hopefully will occur at the Winter Meetings which be held for the first time virtually and take place on December 7-10. The meetings were supposed to be held in Dallas.
The owner’s meetings, also to be held largely through teleconference, will be held November 17-19.
But a juicy tidbit did come to us courtesy of Mike Puma of the New York Post. Puma reached out to agent Scott Boras for his thoughts on the Mets and their new ownership situation. Boras said:
“There is a New Apple in NY…Met Delicious…a Cohen Core with a Wall Street flavor!”
No GM Meetings this year, so we had to reach out directly to Scott Boras to find out in which supermarket aisle the Mets are shopping. Said Boras:
“There is a New Apple in NY… Met Delicious… a Cohen Core with a Wall Street flavor!”

Obviously, the agent community has a much different take on the Mets than in the past. The team under Steve Cohen will be buyers and participate strongly in the free-agent market. This is a welcome change from the lackluster and small-team persona the Mets have carried with them for nearly a generation.
Hopefully, we will be given further guidance from Mr. Cohen himself as he, along with team president Sandy Alderson, address the media for the first time since Cohen took majority ownership of the Mets. The press conference is Tuesday.
But clearly in a very short period of time, the reputation and aura of the New York Mets has changed. If Boras is any indication it is obvious that the Mets are players, major players and are not to be trifled with.
