The Mets introduced new manager Luis Rojas on Friday afternoon at Citi Field. It was announced earlier in the week that Rojas signed a two-year deal with team options to become the Mets 23rd manager.

Rojas, 38, is the son of long-time Major League manager Felipe Alou and brother of former Mets outfielder Moises Alou. He’s been a coach in the Mets minor league starting in 2007 in the Dominican Summer League through 2018 when he was the manager of the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He spont the 2019 season as the Mets quality control coach.

Rojas was emotional as he thanked his family for their support, “This is very exciting, guys. This is a very exciting day for me. It’s a dream come true for me.”

Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen made sure to note that this was a popular pick with the players, “We had a number of players reach out to us, proactively, to say ‘this is our guy.'”

Rojas managed eight seasons in the Mets minor leagues with Jacob deGrom, Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario, Steven Matz, Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Tomas Nido, and many others as current Mets he oversaw in the minors.
