According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, talks between the Mets and Pirates are “intensifying” as the Mets pursue outfielder Starling Marte. The San Diego Padres are also in on the center fielder.

Trade talks picked up again after a pretty quiet few months. The talks re-opened as Pittsburgh’s focus shifted from a potential return of major league talent to a return consisting of prospects.

A name consistently mentioned in trade rumors as someone who can head to the steel city is current outfielder Brandon Nimmo. The 26-year-old is one who was in trade talks on multiple occasions but has been quotes as saying that he “wants to play somewhere he’s wanted.”

Although Heyman is reporting the intensifying conversations, SNY’s Andy Martino is reporting that both teams are “far apart at the moment.”

No matter how close or far apart they are, Brodie Van Wagenen’s interest in Starling Marte is something that will continued to be monitored.
