Two New York Mets were named to Major League Baseball’s inaugural All-MLB Team on Tuesday afternoon: first baseman Pete Alonso and right-hander Jacob deGrom.
Both players were named to the first team. Full rosters for the first and second teams can be found here, via Mike Mayer of MetsMerized.
Alonso, 25, put together a historic rookie campaign, clubbing an MLB-record 53 home runs and a Mets franchise record 85 extra-base hits with a .260/.358/.583 slash line, 143 wRC+, and 4.8 wins above replacement (FanGraphs), while winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
DeGrom, 31, took home his second consecutive NL Cy Young Award after pitching to an 11-8 record with a 2.43 ERA (2.67 FIP), 255 strikeouts, 44 walks, 1.94 home runs allowed per nine innings, and 7.0 fWAR – second among MLB pitchers in 2019 (Gerrit Cole, 7.4).
No Mets were named to the All-MLB second team, but Jeff McNeil (his 143 wRC+ and .384 wOBA ranked fifth and 10th in the NL last season, respectively) and Seth Lugo (his 2.2 fWAR was third among NL relievers) appear to have possibly been overlooked.
