The New York Mets salvaged a game against the best team in the league Sunday at Citi Field. Tyrone Taylor and Marcus Semien each hit three-run homers as the Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-3. They were able to take the last game of what was a three-game set.

On the mound, Freddy Peralta made what may be his last start of a short and tumultuous tenure with the team. He threw 93 pitches across four innings, allowing six hits, three runs (two earned), two walks, and struck out three.

If that was it, Peralta will finish his Mets career with a 5-9 record, 4.99 ERA, and 113 strikeouts across 113 2/3 innings.

Offensively, New York was led by a three-run shot in the sixth by Taylor and a three-run shot by Semien in the seventh. Taylor has been red hot since coming off the injured list, hitting his fifth homer since being activated on June 26. His homer was the game-winning hit as it brought the Mets from 3-1 down to 4-3 up, at the time.

The other runs in the game were contributed by Francisco Lindor in the first, as he singled home A.J. Ewing, who doubled to begin the things for the Mets’ offense. Ewing then scored on a pass ball in the seventh directly before Semien’s insurance shot.

In all, New York’s offense struck for eight runs on six hits. Bo Bichette was the lone Met to contribute multiple hits (2-for-4).

Behind Peralta, the Mets’ bullpen, which has been strong for most of the year, was terrific. Cionel Pérez got things started and posted two superb frames in the fifth and sixth. Interim manager Andy Green then went to his big guns behind Pérez. Brooks Raley, Luke Weaver, and Devin Williams put together three scoreless to end the game.

The most interesting things got for the Dodgers was against Weaver. They loaded the bases but Weaver made a sensational throw to get Teoscar Hernández and spoil a potential big inning.

With the victory, the Mets snapped a three-game losing streak. They were losers of four of their last five games before Saturday’s 8-3 decision. On the season, they sit 18 games below .500 with a 44-62 record.

Player of the Game: Tyrone Taylor

Taylor’s three-run shot in the sixth put the Mets up 4-3 after trailing by two runs. Taylor has been red hot since his return from injury. He is now slashing .237/.281/.481 (.761 OPS) on the season with eight home runs and 23 RBIs. He is doing this while playing limited time.

On Deck

The Mets are right back at it Monday as they welcome the Atlanta Braves to town. It will be a three-game set that begins at 7:10 pm ET  Monday. The probable pitching matchup in the first game of the series is Martín Pérez versus Zac Thornton.
