Contrary to a previous report by MMO, Mike Puma of the New York Post hears that Terry Collins is not a bench coach candidate for the New York Mets.
Collins will remain in the organization as a special assistant to Brodie Van Wagenen.
The 70-year-old was Carlos Beltrán‘s first choice for his bench coach as reported by MMO’s own Jack Ramsey. However, Puma adds that it appears Collins wasn’t as enamored by the idea.
Beltrán played under Collins in 2011 before being traded for Zack Wheeler at the MLB Trade Deadline that season.
In 2017, Beltrán interviewed for the New York Yankees managerial opening and reportedly told the organization that he wanted to hire Collins as his bench coach.
The only known candidate in the Mets’ search for their new bench coach so far is Jerry Narron.
