Will we see Dominic Smith back before the regular season comes to an end? The answer is maybe.
Before Wednesday night’s game, Mickey Callaway spoke about Smith in his pregame press conference. Smith underwent some medical tests. He also took batting practice and worked on running the bases in front of members of the Mets’ training on Wednesday afternoon.
The plan of action now? Callaway and the Mets staff wants to see how Smith comes in on Thursday after this workout today. That will affect the decision as to when he’s back, as he is eligible to come off of the injured list now.
“You can consider activating at that time,” Callaway said and later added how “he hasn’t played in a game in a long time.”
This is true, Smith hasn’t. He has been on the IL since July 27 with a stress fracture in his foot.
Despite being injured, Smith has continued to partake in his team’s triumphs (and unfortunately some sadness). It is obvious that he wants to be back on the field, helping his team win. But, it is also important to not push him before he’s ready and potentially cause more of an issue.
