The New York Mets (62-59) took the third and final game of this three-game weekday series from the Atlanta Braves (72-51) by a score of 10-8 on Thursday night.
It was closer than the Mets would’ve liked after Drew Gagnon allowed three homers in the ninth inning.
The Mets had a stellar game offensively, recording 23 hits including five each from Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario.
It was the first time in franchise history that multiple players on the Mets finished with five hits in the same game.
Notably, Pete Alonso went 5-for-5 and he is the third Mets rookie to collect at least six RBI in a game (the others being Jeromy Burnitz and David Wright).
Pitching
Marcus Stroman (6-11, 3.20 ERA) took the hill for the Mets. Stroman threw 96 pitches in 5 1/3 innings, giving up four hits, three runs, and striking out five.
Luis Avilan entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and worked around a hit to get two outs.
Reliever Brad Brach threw a perfect bottom of the seventh inning, striking out two batters.
Drew Gagnon struggled in his outing tonight, giving up five runs on six hits. Gagnon gave up a solo home run to Freeman to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning.
In the ninth inning, Gagnon gave up a two-run shot to Ronald Acuna Jr. and two more solo shots, one to Donaldson and another one to Freeman.
Closer Edwin Diaz got the job done, striking out the final batter after a walk.

Offense
To get the game started, Rosario led off with a double to right field, followed by a single by Joe Panik to center field. Then, Pete Alonso came up to the plate and scorched a homer to center, driving in three runs, giving the Mets an early three-run lead.
In the top of the second, Stroman laid down a single to get the momentum started. Rosario then hit a triple out to center field, bringing Stroman in to score yet another run.
Teheran proceeded to walk three straight batters: Panik, and Alonso and Conforto. Next up, Wilson Ramos hit a line drive to right field, bringing in Panik to score, and moving Alonso to third and Conforto to second.
The Braves took Teheran out of the game, and put in reliever Josh Tomlin. Davis grounded out into a double play to end this exciting top of the second inning.
In the top of the third, Frazier hit a solo home run, bringing the Met lead up to 7-0. The Mets didn’t do any more damage until they got the ball rolling again in the fifth.
With Rosario at second and Stroman at third, Alonso singled to bring both runners in, giving the Mets even more insurance runs.
Ramos had four hits in the game and Lagares had three of his own.
