The sizzling Mets beat the White Sox 4-0 on Thursday in Chicago to pick up their seventh straight win and improve their record to 53-55 on the season.

Pitching 

Zack Wheeler tossed a gem in his first start since the trade deadline. The right-hander dominated the White Sox allowing only four singles and walking no one. He also struck out seven batters and lowered his season ERA to 4.45.

Wheeler is up to 675 strikeouts in his Mets career, passing Craig Swan today for 13th on the franchise list.

Amed Rosario made his second diving stop of the day to help turn a double play to help Luis Avilan through a scoreless eighth inning. Avilan would also get the first out of the ninth inning. He has 6.2 scoreless innings since coming off the injured list.

Jeurys Familia retired Jose Abreu and A.J. Reed to close out the game.

Hitting

Robinson Cano, batting fourth still because manager Mickey Callaway is superstitious, homered in the second inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. It was his 10th of the season, giving the Mets nine players with double digit homers this year.

The Mets were held scoreless until the sixth inning when Cano extended their lead to 2-0 with an RBI double. It was the 554th double of his career, six behind Eddie Murray and Jeff Kent for 29th all-time.

Catcher Wilson Ramos followed with a run-scoring single. Another run scored on a missed catch error on the play, the Mets lead was pushed to 4-0.

Jeff McNeil went 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored, and a terrific catch in right field. Ramos was on base three times with two hits and a walk.

On Deck

The Mets travel to Pittsburgh on Friday to kick-off a three-game series with the Pirates. Steven Matz (6-6, 4.32) gets the nod for the Mets against Trevor Williams (3-4, 4.77) for the Pirates.
