During a pregame press conference on Monday afternoon, New York Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced that the team received news on Saturday night that Yoenis Cespedes took a violent fall on his ranch in Florida and has suffered multiple right ankle fractures.
“He was on his ranch and had a violent fall in which he stepped in a hole which put his leg and foot in a difficult position,” the General Manager said.
Van Wagenen added that Cespedes was not riding his horse, though it was a non-baseball related activity. The outfielder was making progress on his road back from double heel surgery. He was visiting with the team last week in Miami, and had begun to do some light running.
Van Wagenen didn’t offer a timeline for Cespedes’ recovery, though the team will have more information on his prognosis and future in the coming days as Cespedes is currently in New York being evaluated at HSS.
