Game Notes
The Mets are 12-8 against the NL East this season. New York is in the midst of 13 straight games again the division. Only Philadelphia (15 wins) and Houston (13 wins) have more victories vs. their division this season.
Jeff McNeil has hit .363 (29-80) in 19 games as the team’s leadoff hitter this season. He has reached base in his leadoff plate appearance in nine of those 19 games (.474 OBP). He owns a .500 average (11-22) and a .542 OBP in the first inning overall this year, both third-best in the majors.
The Mets eight runs and eight hits in the first frame last night were the most they’ve had in a single inning this season. The last time the Mets plated at least eight runs in the first inning was June 16, 1989, at Philadelphia (also eight runs). The team’s last time scoring at least eight in an inning overall was a 10-run fifth in a 24-4 victory at Philadelphia on August 16 of last season.
Amed Rosario hit his first career grand slam in the first inning last night. It was the second slam by a Met this season (also, Todd Frazier, April 23 vs. Philadelphia). He extended his hitting streak to six games (.321, 9-28) and has now hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games since April 13, batting .292 (26-89) with 14 RBI in that span. Rosario is hitting .600 (6-10) with a homer and eight RBI in the first inning this year.
The Mets rank fifth in the majors and second in the NL with a 2.64 ERA (25 earned runs/85.1 innings) in May. Only the Cubs have a lower mark (2.60) in the NL. Offensively, the team is hitting .218 in May, ranking 25th in MLB.
Let’s Go Mets!
