During Tuesday’s pregame press conference with Mickey Callaway, he revealed some interesting information regarding his injured veterans in Todd Frazier and Jed Lowrie.

Frazier has started the year on the injured list due to a strained left oblique he has been playing in minor league games recently and continues his rehab tonight.

In his pre-game press conference Mickey Callaway mentioned that Frazier is going to play four innings at shortstop and then the remaining five innings at third for the St. Lucie Mets tonight.

Mickey further explained why they decided to start him there, “Just so we have that option at some point if we need to have it, so he is progressing very nicely.”

After being asked how serious they were having Frazier at short, Mickey explained, “Frazier is a very good possibility…we feel just to maximize our roster if we need to have an extra pitcher something like that. We have to have an extra guy that might be able to play short at some point. We want to get him as many reps as possible there, while still getting him prepared to be a third baseman like he traditionally is.”

Frazier has only three major league innings at shortstop though he played there almost exclusively his first two minor league seasons.

Lowrie has been on the injured list for the start of the year with a strained capsule in his left knee. Lowrie took ground balls today and looks good he is making “definite progress.”

Mickey further mentioned, “I don’t think we have a date, or a week or anything like that in mind but very encouraged.” He included that his “legs are beneath him” and he is doing well at the plate however, there is not a timetable for when he will be joining the Mets.

Lowrie’s progress hasn’t been more strenuous than the reps he has done recently, the reps he is taking are being stretched out rather than changing in difficulty, i.e. if he did 20 reps at third one day ago he is striving for 25 the next day.
