Mickey Callaway spoke with the press this morning and said that Todd Frazier will appear in games in Port St. Lucie “in the next few days.” However, Jed Lowrie isn’t as far along and has been traveling with the team as he rehabs.
Frazier, 33, did not appear in any Spring Training games this year due to a strained left oblique that took a while to recover from.
Last year, Frazier hit .213/.303/.390 with 18 home runs and 59 RBI to give him a 93 wRC+ and 1.5 fWAR. On the defensive end, Frazier recorded two defensive runs saved and a 2.4 UZR at the hot corner.
Lowrie, 34, hit .267/.353/.448 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI to give himself a 122 wRC+ and 4.9 fWAR with the Oakland Athletics last season. The infielder accumulated a 6.1 UZR at second base while having a -0.8 UZR at third.
The latter signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Mets this past offseason while Frazier is in the second and final year of a two-year, $17 million contract he signed before the start of last season.
