New York Mets infielder Todd Frazier had a positive day today as he continues his rehab from a left oblique strain suffered in late February. According to Tim Healey of Newsday, Frazier ran, played catch and took grounders without difficulty. The veteran third baseman was pleased with his own performance.

Frazier has yet to appear in a spring training game for the Mets in 2019. The 33-year old came to the Mets as a free agent last year from the New York Yankees and largely struggled in his first year in Queens.

His slash line was a pedestrian .213/.303/.390 with 18 home runs and 59 RBIs in 115 games. He was on the disabled list from May 8 to June 2 with a left-hamstring strain and again from July 9 to August 2 with a left rib cage muscle strain. His home run and RBI totals were the lowest he’s had since he was a rookie with the Cincinnati Reds in 2011.

Frazier is a two-time All-Star (2014 and 2015) and is looking forward to an improved 2019 season. He said upon his injury that, “(he) wanted to try something different–going slow. And this has to happen. It’s not the best start. Luckily, it happened in spring training and we can nip this thing in the bud and get ready for the season.”

It is unknown when Frazier will add to his his baseball activities–such as hitting–but today’s activities are certainly a step in the right direction. Hopefully, Frazier, who has never known to be an injury prone player, can add to the depth that the Mets worked so hard to attain in the off-season and a make a positive contribution in 2019.
