Mets ace Jacob deGrom made his second spring start of 2019 on Friday when he pitched three innings in the Mets win over the Tigers, 7-1.

DeGrom needed only 39 pitches to get through three scoreless innings. He allowed only one hit, zero walks, and struck out four. He struck out the last three batters he faced, all swinging. The 2018 National League Cy Young Award winner got his fastball velocity up to 99 mph on a warm day in Lakeland.

The 30-year-old deGrom is coming off a historic 2018 season in which he had a 1.70 ERA, 1.99 FIP, and struck out 269 batters in 217 innings. There’s been no recent news of any extension talk between his agents and the Mets.

DeGrom talked to reporters about what he’s currently working on:

Devin Mesoraco, deGrom’s personal catcher got the start on Friday and he hit first home run of the spring. The veteran returned to the Mets on a minor league deal, but could make the team as Travis d’Arnaud has yet to play in a spring game yet.

Mesoraco talked about working with deGrom:
