Though many players reported to Port St. Lucie last week, Monday morning kicked off the first official full squad workout of 2019 Spring Training for the New York Mets.
Dominic Smith is seen here with Binghamton Rumble Ponies hitting coach Tony Jaramillo.
Smith is coming off a pretty miserable 2018 season. In 56 games at the big league level, he hit .224/.255/.420 with an 87 OPS+, five home runs, and 11 RBI.
Yesterday MMO’s own Josh Finkelstein discussed how Smith fit’s not just into the 2019 team but also in the future.

MLB Pipeline’s #58 prospect and Mets top prospect Andres Gimenez will certainly be a player to watch in camp this season.
The 19-year old split last season between St. Lucie and Binghamton. Despite being one of the youngest players at the Double-A level, Gimenez found success.
Overall, he played in 122 games and hit .281/.347/.409 with a career high 29 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 46 RBI, and 38 stolen bases.

Brandon Nimmo is coming off a breakout year at the plate. Hep played in 140 games and hit .263/.404/.483 with 17 home runs, 28 doubles, and eight triples. He also posted a 149 wRC+, which was the second best in the National League, only behind MVP Christian Yelich.
Nimmo provided a spark, passion, and energy to a team that very badly needed it.
Nimmo has already been tabbed by Mickey Callaway as the Mets 2019 leadoff hitter. If this team is going to go anywhere this season, they are going to need another big year from the Happiest Man in Baseball.
Sidetone, in the background you can see former Met Endy Chavez who recently retired and was hired by the Brooklyn Cyclones to join their staff.

Of course, the man of the hour is back at Mets camp this year. Tim Tebow reported to camp a few days ago, and it’s been Tebow Mania ever since.
All things considered, Tebow is actually coming off of a pretty decent 2018 season. In 84 games, he hit .273/.336/.399 with six homers and 36 RBI prior to his season ending early due to a broken hamate bone in his hand.
And on Saturday afternoon Tebow proclaimed that despite receiving numerous offers to play in the Alliance of American Football, he is “all in on playing baseball” moving forward.

Lastly is Amed Rosario, who looks to have bulked up a bit and appears to be in tremendous shape. Rosario is coming off an up-and-down first full season in the big leagues.
In the second half, he took some major strides forward and showed flashes of his top prospect potential. Over 64 games post All Star break, Rosario hit .268/.302/.383 with ten doubles, five home runs, and eighteen stolen bases.
Rosario is going to be one of the biggest guys to watch this Spring Training. If he can carry his adjustments and success into the 2019 season, the 22-year old could be in for a breakout year.
