According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, the New York Mets’ four-year, $60 million offer to free agent catcher and former Dodgers backstop Yasmani Grandal was turned down.

This presumably led general manager Brodie Van Wagenen to turn his sights onto Wilson Ramos, who signed with the Mets for two years and $19 million.

“Yasmani Grandal, who turned down the Dodgers’ $17.9 million qualifying offer,” Castillo wrote. “Remains a free agent after declining a four-year, $60 million offer from the New York Mets.”

Grandal, 30, spent seven seasons in Los Angeles, developing into a fine defense-first backstop with a ton of offensive upside.

In 140 games last season, the Cuban native slashed .241/.349/.466 with 24 homers, 68 runs batted in, 23 doubles, and a 121 OPS+ rating

Grandal led the majors in framing runs above average adjusted last season with a 16.3 rating, over two points higher than Jeff Mathis, formerly of Arizona, who put up a 14.1 rating despite over 3,100 less framing chances, as per Baseball Prospectus.
