Amed Rosario has been showing the Mets just why he was labeled as one of the top prospects in the game. Since the All Star Break, he has the second highest WAR among all shortstops and is tied for third in the National League with 12 stolen bases.
Rosario is finally performing like the force the Mets excepted him to be at the top of the lineup. In his past 28 games, he is hitting .298/.327/.479 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs, and seven RBI’s.
“Basically what I’m doing is putting a lot of trust in myself. I think that confidence in myself is everything,” Rosario recently told Mike Puma of the New York Post.
The 22-year old has carried that confidence with him into the final month of the season. Through 14 games in September, Rosario is eleventh in the National League with a .315 (17-54) batting average and, is tied for tenth with seven extra-base hits.
He continued his strong stretch with a solid weekend series in Boston. On Friday night, he went 2-for-5 with a single and a monstrous solo home run over the Green Monster.
After going hitless in four at-bats on Saturday, Rosario bounced back on Sunday afternoon. In the Mets 4-3 series finale loss, he went 2-for-4 with a single and an RBI double.
“There are some adjustments he’s made in the second half and he’s not only doing it against average pitchers, he’s doing it against the best of the best,” Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters.
“He’s been doing a great job. I’m proud of his approach, he’s been going out and playing the game the right way,” Callaway added.
