St. Lucie Met southpaw, David Peterson, was named the FSL’s Player of the Week. Across all minor-league affiliates, he’s the fifth Met to earn that distinction this week.

On Saturday, Peterson twirled another terrific start, pitching five shutout innings. More impressively, he struck out nine batters and didn’t issue a walk. He only permitted two hits, which marked the fourth consecutive start he’s hit that goal.

Outstanding starts have recently been the norm for the Mets 2017 first rounder. His final four outings of the year were nothing short of dominant. After initially struggling upon reaching the FSL, there were concerns that he wasn’t ready yet for the level. However, he made the necessary adjustments and the results were spectacular.

Dating back to early August, he hasn’t allowed an earned run while collecting 26 strikeouts. It’s now entirely possible that he could debut in Binghamton at the beginning of 2019.

Yesterday, he was named to MLB.com’s Prospect Team of the Week.

Peterson was the third St.Lucie Met to receive Player of the Week honors this season. Teammates Josh Prevost and Luis Carpio were previously given the awards during back-to-back weeks in June.
