As per Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports, the New York Mets seem to be actively shopping both catcher Devin Mesoraco and outfielder Jose Bautista.
Heyman notes that the Mets are “hopeful to trade” the two and that they could be “candidates to bring back international [bonus pool money]”.
Mesoraco, 30, was traded to New York on May 7 in the deal that sent Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds. Since joining the Mets, Mesoraco has hit .229/.307/.401 with seven home runs and 24 runs batted in.
Bautista, 37, was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves after hitting just .143/.250/.343 through his first 12 games with the team. Since coming to the Mets, Bautista has slashed .237/.385/.429 with six homers and 24 RBI.
With Tomas Nido (.333/.347/.544 in 114 at-bats since June 14) absolutely raking in Double-A Binghamton, the team could conceivably afford to part with Mesoraco if they like the return.
If they can get anything for a player who has rediscovered himself after being plucked off of the trash heap in Bautista, that has to be considered a win for the Mets’ front office.
