Before tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Mets Manager Mickey Callaway spoke about the team changing their mindset and getting a look at some of the younger players on the roster.

Naturally, after tonight’s 12-6 win, the Mets announced they were sending 24-year-old rookie Corey Oswalt down to Triple-A. Oswalt was sent down so the team can activate 35-year-old Jason Vargas from the disabled list.

On the season, Vargas had made nine starts. He is 2-6 with an 8.60 ERA and a 1.832 WHIP.

Oswalt has made four starts since his most recent call-up. In those starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and a 0.850 WHIP. In his last three starts, he has allowed three hits or fewer.

Despite the Mets purportedly wanting to get a look at younger players and his struggles, Vargas will get the start on Friday for the Mets.
