Speaking before the series opener of the final leg of the 2018 Subway Series, things started off slow during New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway‘s pregame press conference.

First, he confirmed that Yoenis Cespedes, “could play a bit of first base going forward”. This didn’t come as much of a surprise considering he played a full nine innings at the position during his rehab game on July 17 with the GCL Mets.

Callaway then went on to speak about the preventative measures that the team would be taking with Cespedes now that he’s back with the team.

He then alluded to the possibility of more late scratches for the 32-year-old slugger, “as the Mets will closely monitor how he feels in his pregame routine for the rest of his career”.

Cespedes, 32, was activated off of the disabled list today after missing over two months (placed on the DL on May 16, retroactive to May 14) with a mild strain of the right hip flexor, which then was confirmed as a chronic heel issue by Mets co-GM John Ricco, as per Laura Albanese of Newsday.

Before getting hurt, the Cuban native was slashing .255/.316/.474 with eight home runs and 28 runs batted in. He is in the lineup tonight, hitting second as the Mets’ designated hitter.

As per Zach Braziller of the New York Post, Cespedes will not be speaking to the media before tonight’s game.
