As per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the New York Mets appear to be calling up minor-leaguers Kevin Kaczmarski and Drew Smith. They are reportedly on their way to New York to meet up with the team ahead of their weekend series at home versus the Dodgers.
Kaczmarski, 26, was drafted by the Mets in the ninth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He’s hitting .363/.413/.450 with eight runs batted in and three doubles in 80 at-bats this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.
He plays both corner outfield positions and holds a slash line of .299/.380/.417 with eleven home runs, 143 runs batted in, and 68 doubles over the span of four MiLB seasons.
Drew Smith, 24, was acquired by the Mets from the Tampa Bay Rays last season in the Lucas Duda trade.
In four minor-league seasons, the right-hander has a 2.02 earned-run average with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings and a 3.47 strikeouts-to-walks ratio.
He’s pitched in Double-A Binghamton (4.1 innings, 2.08 earned-run average, six strikeouts and a walk) and Triple-A Las Vegas (3.00 earned-run average in 30 innings, 2.33 strikeouts-to-walks) this season.
AJ Ramos (torn labrum) and Jamie Callahan (shoulder surgery) are both out for the season and are eligible to be moved to the 60-day disabled list, negating the need for a healthy player to be removed from the team’s 40-man roster. Callahan would technically have to have his contract purchased before going on DL because he was injured during minor league season.
